2010 Events
On October 7th. we had the pleasure of holding a musical night at the Ambassador of Uruguay residence. As usual Mr. Carlos Gianelli and his Wife Mónica were the best hosts you can ask. The members and friends of UAF enjoyed Boleros by Eva Rey, harp music by Héctor Muñoz and his group and tango by Nelson Pino. All that accompanied by Uruguayan food and Uruguayan wine, made that event one of the best of the year.

Friends attending the event |
During the first semester of this year, UAF held two very interesting cultural events:
A lecture by Mr. Luis Schwarz on the subject:”Living with you make me crazy”. You just can imagine the vitality of such a theme!! The audience laughed and learnt a lot. Luis, as usual, knew how to steer the people to get anecdotes that could illustrate the principal points of his dissertation.
In June we had the pleasure of receiving professor Susana de Jaureguy who talked about Juana de Ibarbourou, the famous Uruguayan poet. The lecture was given at the Uruguayan Embassy in Washington, D.C. and the audience enjoyed all the knowledge that Susana is always capable to share with the public

The proceeds of both events went to the Fund to finance the project of electricity for
rural schools in Uruguay. |
In August we celebrated another anniversary of our Independence with the traditional picnic that gathered many Uruguayans and friends of Uruguay. This event is always a success and in this occasion we had something extra: we sold photos of the soccer players of the team that got the 4th. Place in the Championship in Africa. We also had special T-shirts with the logo of our institution that sold quite well. If anyone wants any of these articles, please contact Liliana Arango :larango@msn.com. As usual Candombe for Ever played for us the music that we all love.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF HARD WORK
On December 4, 2010 we celebrated 20 years of constant work to help Uruguay in the areas of health and education. We are very proud of our accomplishment because our institution has always been blessed with the collaboration of very good people whose only goal was to help Uruguay. Different Board of Directors work in different ways, but always, always with Uruguay as the only purpose.
But, we could not have done so much without our dear members and friends of UAF who constantly encouraged us to go on and accompanied us in all of our fund raisings. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OF YOU.
The night of December 4th. was filled with good music, good tango show, good food and dancing. Everybody was happy and ready to go on for more years helping Uruguay. The night closed with the participation of Candombe for Ever the excellent group of our national music.

What is New with the Rural Schools?
During the first semester of 2011 we have been taken care of the schools of Maldonado and Treinta y Tres
in order to keep up with the necessary maintenance. In some cases the solar panels are broken , in others they
have been stolen. The main problem is of course, the batteries that must be replaced after some years of use.
Also, in the visits of our contractor new needs are taken into consideration and in most of the cases UAF approves
the work to be done. In the second semester the schools of Cerro Largo will be visited for maintenance and we plan
to begin work in the Department of Tacuarembó where close to 35 schools are in need of our attention. We will keep you informed.

A Request to Our Membership
The entire electrification project is the largest single operation the Foundation has attempted in its long history. The value
to Uruguay's poorest children really can not be measured. We feel this is going to be our greatest success. A project this size,
however, does come with a certain costs. The cost to install and set up the electrification equipment at each school averages
approximately $ 2.000.00. While this number may seem high, imagine how difficult it is to raise that kind of money in the rural
areas of Uruguay. We have many more schools to complete and we need your continued support. We would greatly appreciate it if
you could make a donation to the UAF for this purpose. All donations, no matter their size, will help us in reaching our goal of
completing this work in the next few years.
REMEMBER:
We have already finished the following schools:
4 schools in the Department of Soriano; 5 schools in the Department of Maldonado; 11 schools in the Department of Treinta y Tres; 14 schools in the Department of Cerro Largo. During 2011 we are providing maintenance to those schools as well as beginning the preparations for attending 35 schools in the Department of Tacuarembó.
As always, all your donations to our organization are tax-free.
For more information, please send a e-mail to: laguirre@erols.com
We thank you very much for your continued support,
